How anxiety and depression can feel

Anxiety can show up as constant worry, a mind that will not switch off at night, panic that seems to come from nowhere, or avoiding things you used to manage without thinking. Depression can feel like a heaviness that will not lift, losing interest in the things you used to enjoy, or simply not feeling like yourself any more.

The two often come together, and they can creep up slowly. Many people carry on for a long time before they reach out. There is no wrong time to ask for support, and you do not need to be at breaking point to deserve it.

How I can help

I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with an FdSc Degree in Counselling (Cognitive Behavioural), and I have over ten years’ experience in a counselling setting. CBT looks at the links between how we think, how we feel and what we do, and offers practical ways to break the patterns that keep anxiety and low mood going.

My approach is humanistic and client focused, so CBT is one part of what I offer rather than a fixed programme. Some people want practical tools, some mainly need a safe space to talk, and many want a bit of both. I will tailor your therapy to your needs and your personality, and we will always go at your pace.

What we will work on together

In our first session we will talk about what has been troubling you and what you would like to change, and set goals for your therapy together. We will review those goals regularly, so you can see how you are getting on.

Some of my clients have told me they felt a little better after the very first session, having had a safe space to offload. Most start to feel a definite change within the first six to ten sessions. Everyone is different, though, and you decide how many sessions you want.

Questions

Things people often ask

If your question is not here, you are welcome to call or email.

Do I need a diagnosis, or a referral from my GP?

No. You do not need a diagnosis or a referral. You can get in touch with me directly, and we can talk about what is going on for you in a free consultation.

Is CBT right for me?

We can talk about that in your free 20-minute consultation. CBT helps many people with anxiety and low mood, but it is not the only way I work, and I will shape our sessions around what helps you.

Can I have sessions online or by telephone?

Yes. If coming to Wallasey feels like too much at the moment, or it is simply easier, we can meet online by video call or talk by telephone.
